Abstract: Apparatus is used to remove broken clamping pieces from the spools of tape cassettes so that they may be reused for a new tape. The spools (1) are fed from a magazine to the clamping position (3) where a drive spindle (4) is inserted into the spool and where an extractor member is lowered so that a peg (24) at its end (23) forces out the clamping piece (11). At this position, a sensing arm (12) is swung towards the position of the clamping piece. The spool is first positioned by swinging a first sensing arm (7) with a locating nose (8) into a groove in the spool which operates a switch controlling the movement of the second sensing arm.
