Abstract: NITROGEN DIOXIDE IS SELECTIVELY REMOVED FROM GASES WHICH CONTAIN NOT ONLY NITROGEN DIOXIDE IN STRONGLY DILUTED FORM BUT ALSO OXYGEN BY REACTION WITH CARBON MONOXIDE AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES IN THE PRESENCE OF SUPPORTED CATALYSTS OF PLATINUM AND/OR PALLADIUM. THE REACTION TAKES PLACE AT TEMPERATURES OF FROM 130* TO 425* C. AND THE CARRIER USED IS A-ALUMINUM OXIDE OR SILICON DIOXIDE. THE RATIO OF THESE OXIDES TO ONE ANOTHER IS CHOSEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PREDETERMINED TEMPERATURE.

Abstract: Prepn. of ammonium nitrate granules (I) opt. contg. CaCO3 and with a N-content of at least 25 wt.% by shaping mashes contg. ammonium nitrate which also contains gypsum andopt. soluble sulphates, comprises adding gypsum to a mash heated to 120-160 deg.C and keeping the mixt. at this temp. for 5-20 minutes before shaping. (I) are fertilisers with excellent storage stability. There is no need to dehydrate the gypsum to give the reactive anhydride, saving technical and energetic expense.
