Abstract: In the parent patent an elastic melamine-HCHO resin foam is prepd. by foaming an aq. soln. or dispersion contg. a melamine-HCHO prepolymer, an emulsifier, a volatile blowing agent, a hardener, and opt. other conventional additives and then hardening. In this addn., the aq. soln. or dispersion is prepd. continuously in a mixer with a pre-mixing zone (A), an intensive mixing zone (B), a kneading zone (C) and a take-off zone (D). A melamine-HCHO prepolymer powder is fed separately to (A) and then 70-98% of the total amt. of water. in (B) the prepolymer and water are mixed and at the end of the zone, the liq. blowing agent and a soln. of the hardener and emulsifier opt. with the other additives in the rest of the water are added separately. The additives are mixed with the compsn. in (C). The take-off pressure in (D) is 1.1-5.0 bar. The temp. of the compsn. in zone (A) is not greater than 30 deg.C and in the other zones not greater than 25 deg.C. The process provides a homogeneous mixt. for foaming.

Abstract: Parent Patent discloses the continuous prepn. of foamed profiles, having thickness 1-200 mm, by (A) homogenising a mixt. contg. (a) an olefin polymer, (b) 1-30 wt. % solid organic blowing agent, decomposing on heating to generate inorganic gases, (c) 0.1-10 wt. % organic peroxide and opt. (d) 0.1-10 wt. % foaming auxiliaries, crosslinking promoters and standard additives; (B) crosslinking and foaming the olefin polymer in a foaming zone, at 160-280 degrees C; and (C) extruding the foam from foaming zone, with cooling and solidifying. In foaming zone, pressure is 5-150 bar. Ratio of foaming zone length: max. thickness is 100-2000:1. The improvement comprises applying an additional organic peroxide, c', to the surface of the homogenised mixt. of (A) before entering into foaming zone. c' is pref present at 0.001-0.1 wt. % w.r.t. (a+b+c+d)mixt. Peroxide c' is pref. added together with a lubricant, opt. contg. a solubiliser, e.g. a lower alcohol, for c'. The stronger outer skin allows the prepn. of extrudable foamed profiles having a lower gel content, e.g. 10-30 wt. %.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of elastic foams from melamin-formaldehyde condensation products by foaming a blowing agent-containing melamin resin solution, curing the foam and conditioning the cured foam at temperatures between 120 and 250 DEG C. The conditioning is carried out by passing from 500 to 10,000 m of hot gas through each m of foam.

Abstract: A tube has its walls made up from layers of fibrous sheets impregnated with a thermoplastic (I). Pref. the (I) impregnated sheets are wound, at a temp. > m.pt. of (I), around an internal former as one or more overlapping layers, then compressed at 5-300N/cm using a tension tape made of heat-stable films. Opt. a preformed strip of hard foam is introduced between the layers and an endless glass fibre may be wound on simultaneously. The tubes are made quickly and easily and have good and uniform qualities esp. strength. Typical plastics are polyethylene, polypropylene, styrene (co)polymers, PVC etc, and the fabric is e.g. a mat, fleece, or web of glass-, C- plastics or asbestos-fibres coated with usual polymeric binders.

Abstract: A continuous web of foamed polyolefin partic. polyethylene is produced by extruding activated and catalysed polymer into the end of a long channel which is bordered with endless belts, heating to reaction temp. moving between the belts and foaming under pressure of 30-70 kP/cm2. Provides a practicable method of producing fine-cell polyolefin foam continuously.
