Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a petroleum emulsion decomposing agent which not only well decomposes a water-in-oil emulsion but gives the decomposed water containing residual oil as little as possible, and can be easily produced. CONSTITUTION: This petroleum emulsion decomposing agent is based on an alkoxylated polyethyleneimine and is obtd. by alkoxylation of polyethylene imine having 2500 to 35000 mol.wt. Mw in 5 to 40 mol of propylene oxide and 5 to 40 mol. ethylene oxide per unit ethyleneimine in the polyethyleneimine, and the agent is used at 10 to 130 deg.C for demulsification of a petroleum emulsion.
