Abstract: Soils are fertilized by a method in which ammonium syngenite (NH4)2SO4.CaSO4.H2O or a mixture of finely divided ammonium sulfate, calcium sulfate, calcium nitrate, calcium chloride and/or dicalcium phosphate is applied to these soils, as a slow-acting nitrogen fertilizer, with the proviso that the molar ratio of Ca to SO4-- in the mixture is 1:2+/-10%.

Abstract: Products containing ammonium syngenite are prepared by granulating a mixture of ammonium sulphate with calcium salts, whose particle sizes are in each case below 0.5 mm, it being possible for the calcium salts to contain up to 4 mol water of crystallisation, the granulation process being carried out with an addition of 0.1 to 1.1 mol of water per mol of calcium, followed, if desired, by a drying step. After the addition of water, the total water content of the mixture should be at least 1.1 mol of water per mol of calcium.
