Abstract: Liquid colourant contains soluble dyestuff(s) (I), finely-divided pigment(s) (II), solvent (III) and opt. dispersant. Pref. (I) is an anionic or cationic dyestuff (esp. an anionic azo dyestuff or phthalocyanine deriv. or a cationic dyestuff of the azo, triarylmethane or xanthene series and (III) a water and/or water-soluble solvent and opt. organic acid; or (I) is readily soluble in organic solvents (and pref. is a nonionic cpd. of a solvent dyestuff or a cationic or anionic dyestuff rendered soluble in organic solvents by suitable anions or cations) and (III) is an organic solvent. (II) is pref. C black, Fe oxide, an azo cpd. or phthalocyanine. The colourant is very good for aq. and non-aq. media, esp. glues (used in chipboard mfr.) and shoe creams and also paper and wood impregnants, plant protectives, fertilisers, impregnants for glass fibres, jute felt and carpet underlays, printing ink, wax polishes, candles and lacquers. It is homogeneous and more economical than usual and can be stored without sepn. occuring.

Abstract: A compsn. for colouring PVC and PVC pastes contains (a) 5-60 (15-35) wt % of a finely divided pigment, (b) 30-94 (60-80) % of a softener, and (c) 2-25 (5-15)% of a copolymer of vinyl chloride (I) and vinyl isobutyl ether (II) in molar ratio I:III of 75:25-80:20. (a) may be (in)organic, e.g. Cr yellow, Pb molybdate, Cu phthalocyanine, and pigments of the condensed anthraquinone, quinacryidone and azo series. The amt. of organic pigment is esp. 15-35 wt %. (b) include mono- and diesters of phthalic acid, bis-(2-ethylhexanol) adipate and bis-isodecanol adipate. The copolymer (c) has X value 35-39. The compsn. is easy flowing at low pigment concn. A mixt. contg. 15-25 wt % pigment is non-thixotropic, can be pumped, and can be metered automatically. Complete dispersion of the pigment is achieved.
