Abstract: Glass-fibre-reinforced styrene polymerisate contg. (A) 10-50 wt. % glass-fibres; (B) 90-3% of a copolymer of styrene with 3-50% of an ethylenically unsatd. mono- or dicarboxylic acid, ester or amide, dicarboxylic acid semi-ester of anhydride, and opt. another comonomer; and (C) 0-87 wt. % of a styrene (co)polymer miscible with (B). The glass fibres are pre-treated with a size in form of a dispersion of soln. contg. an organosilane as adhesion adjuvant and opt. a synth. material as film-former; the organosilane contg. reactive gps. adapted to form a chemical bond with the functional gps. of (B). Used in injection moulding.

Abstract: In a transparent thermoplastics compsn. comprising 5-50 wt.% glass fibres or glass beads and 95-50% of a blend of >=2 compatible thermoplastics the wt. ratio of the thermoplastics components is adjusted so that the difference between the refractive index of the blend and that of the glass fibres is 0.004, pref. 0.002. Used e.g. in mfr. of prepregs for making transparent reinforced sheets. The blend may be PMMA + styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer.
