THE INVENTION ALSO IS DIRECTED TO THE NOVEL COMPOUND 2 - HYDROXY-3,3,4,4-TETRABROMOTETRAHYDROFURAN.

    Abstract: The invention comprises pyridazones of the formula wherein R1 represents a phenyl or cyclohexyl radical, optionally substituted by a methyl group or halogen atom, and R2 represents a methyl, ethyl or acetyl radical. The compounds are used as herbicides (see Division A5). Specified compounds are 1 - cyclohexyl - 4 - methoxy - , 1 - phenyl - 4 - methoxy -, 1 - phenyl - 4 - ethoxy -, 1 - phenyl - 4 - acetoxy -, and 1 - p - fluoro - phenyl - 4 - methoxy - 5 - bromopyridazones.ALSO:Compounds of the formula wherein R1 represents a phenyl or cyclohexyl radical, optionally substituted by a methyl group or halogen atom, and R2 represents a methyl, ethyl or acetyl group, are used as herbicides, either alone or in admixture with a liquid or solid carrier. The herbicidal compositions may also include wetting agents, emulsifiers, glue, alginates or resins and may be used in conjunction with other active substances such as fertilisers. Examples relate to the use of 1 - phenyl - 4 - methoxy - 5 - bromopyridazone - (6) in aqueous dispersion. The herbicides may be applied to the plants or to the soil in which they grow.

However, when R 1 is CO-COOH the amido derivative is obtained directly. Some specific compounds of the invention are specified. They are useful as active ingredients in herbicidal compositions.
