[Also in Division G3] A weighing apparatus comprises a conveyer belt 2 on to which material is fed by a vibrating shoot 24 from a container 25, counterbalanced by a weigh beam 13 about a pivoting axis 12. The conveyer belt is supported by rollers 3, 4 in a frame 1, the rollers being driven by a motor 9 through gearing 26. The weigh-beam 13 has sliding weights 14, 15 and movement is damped by an eddy-current device 20 and detected by a differential transformer 21, the output of which has a phase-shift of 180 degrees about a zero-position. The output of the transformer is fed to a regulator 22 which controls a servomotor positioning a control resistance of the vibrating shoot 24 through a slip coupling. The balance is pivoted by cross-bands 28 and arranged in a Z-form as shown, the conveyer belt being separated from the weigh-beam by a partition 16 which forms with a wall 17 a chamber 19 which is pressurized, to exclude dust, through an opening 18. The upper section of the belt conforms to the shape of a supporting trough and the lower section is flanked by a guard plate Fig. 3, not shown.

    Abstract: In the manufacture of urea by forcing a mixture of ammonia and carbon dioxide into an autoclave, the gases are brought to the necessary pressure by expelling either or both of them from solutions capable of giving them off, by means of heat. By way of example, a concentrated solution of ammonium carbonate or carbamate is forced into a heated column, the gas mixture produced passed through a cooler at about 110-150 DEG C., and the condensate run into an autoclave where it is heated at 130-150 DEG C. until the conversion into urea no longer proceeds. The autoclave may be filled and discharged either at intervals or continuously, or the process can be carried out with single charges, when the column is replaced by a pressure-resisting vessel. The unconverted gases are expelled from the urea solution and used, together with fresh gases, to saturate the exhausted liquid from the column for further use. The gaseous ammonia and carbon dioxide may be generated in separate columns, for example, from aqueous ammonia and sodium or ammonium bicarbonate solution respectively, or one of the gases may be forced into the autoclave by means of a compressor.
