Abstract: A catalyst system (I) for the polymerisation of olefinic hydrocarbons contains (A) a metal-amidinato complex of formula (A) and opt. (B) an acceptor cpd. for substit. X in (A) as activator; M = Sub-Gp. III, IV, V or VI metal or lanthanide metal; X = negative leaving atom or gp. (these can be identical or different if (n = m) is greater than 1); R -R = C-organic or Si-organic gps.; n = valency of M in complex (A); m = 1-5; n - m = O or more. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of homo- or copolymers of ethylene and other olefins by insertion polymerisation using catalyst (I). Also claimed are polymers of ethylene and alkyl- and aryl-substd. olefins obtd. by this process.
