Abstract: Fluid from an external supply delivered to the centre of a rotating drum for mixing powders with liq. is sprayed from nozzles arranged along the central longitudinal axis of the drum. The nozzles are supported on a pipe in the upper half of the drum and can be directed so that the spray impinges on the mixture surface at right angles to provide max. wetting effect. The main nozzle in each sprayer may be supplied from the interior tube of a concentric pair, with the outer tube having smaller nozzles connected to a separate source, e.g. of gas for fluidising the mixer drum contents. In the mixing of colouring materials and dispersants in water, the evolution of dust from very fine particles and the difficulties in wetting such fine particles are overcome by spraying with oil to agglomerate the particles. With the present device the applied fluid, e.g. oil, is uniformly and economically applied, using only a fraction of the amt. with known appts. Specification printed 25.2.82.
