    Abstract: A PROCESS FOR PURIFYING TEREPHTHALIC ACID (OBTAINED FROM CRUDE TEREPHTHALIC ACID AND CONTAINING SMALL AMOUNTS OF 4-CARBOXYBENZALDEHYDE AND OTHER IMPURITIES BY A REDUCTIVE TREATMENY OF AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION WHICH CONTAINS FROM 5 TO 45% BY WEIGHT KOF FROMIC ACID AT ACID AND FROM 0.0003 TO 3% BY WEIGHT OF FORMIC ACID AT ELEVAED TEMPERATURE AND IN THE PRESENCE OF A NOBLE METAL CATALYST OF THE EIGHT GROUP OF THE PERIODIC TABLE. THE AQUEOUS MIXTURE IS HEATED TO A TEMPERATURE OF AT LEAST 230*C.

    Abstract: 1305599 Ortho-benzoyl benzoic acid and anthraquinone BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 3 July 1970 [4 July 1969] 32347/70 Heading C2C Ortho-benzoylbenzoic acid is obtained by oxidizing an indem of the formula where R1 and R 3 each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and R 2 represents an alkyl radical, with oxygen in the liquid phase in the presence of a heavy metal salt, e.g. cobalt or manganese salts, and a compound yielding bromide ions. The ratio of bromide to each mole of heavy metal salt is preferably 0À2-2 grams. The ortho-benzoyl benzoic acid may be converted, without isolation, to anthraquinone by means of a dehydrating agent such as sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid.
