Abstract: Aromatic ketones are prepd. by reacting a ring-acylatable aromatic cpd. with an aromatic carboxylic acid chloride or anhydride (I) in the presence of =10 wt.% FeCl3, based on (I) as Friedel-Crafts catalyst. The use of such small amts. of catalyst reduces sec. chlorination and oxidn. reactions and facilitates sepn. and recovery of the catalyst. The prods. are inters. for dyes and pesticides.
