Abstract: Aromatic amines are prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of nitroaromatics on hydrogenation catalysts at 160 to 450 DEG C and pressures of 1 to 50 bar, the hydrogenation catalyst containing 0.02 to 1% by weight of halogen and/or the reaction mixture containing 0.1 to 50 ppm of a halogen-containing organic compound, relative to the nitroaromatics employed.
