Abstract: The recording tape or carrier consists essentially of a non-magnetic base and a thin layer of metallic and magnetic material deposited on the top, with a surface layer and a protecting layer of amorphous carbon which contains some hydrogen. This surface layer is produced in a vacuum chamber by means of a ''sputtering'' process with a carbon target.
