Abstract: Bis-(4-(1-phenyl-5-hydroxy-1H-pyrazol-4-ylazo)-phenyl) compounds of formula (I) and corresponding mono- or di-copper complexes of formula (II) are new, where R = H, alkyl (optionally substituted by halogen), alkoxy, halogen, NO2, COOH or SO3H; R = H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, NO2 or SO3H; R = H, alkyl, halogen or SO3H; R = H, alkyl or halogen; Y = alkyl or COOH; all alkyl moieties have 1-4C; L = SO2NH, CONH or NHCONH (with either terminal bonded to X in the case of (II)); and X = group of formula (X1) or (X2). Preferably R = H, Me, Et, CF3, OMe, OEt, Cl, Br, NO2, COOH or SO3H; R = H, Me, Et, OMe, OEt, Cl, Br, NO2 or SO3H; R = H, Me, Et, Cl, Br or SO3H; R = H, Me, Et, Cl or Br; Y = Me, Et or COOH; L = SO2NH or CONH (both with either terminal bonded to X in the case of (II)). (I) or (II) contains at least one COOH and/or SO3H group.
