Abstract: Cu is extracted from spent catalysts contg. Cu and/or oxides of Cu, Zn, Al and Cr which have been used for CO conversion, or methanol synthesis, by adjusting the mole ratio of ZnO/Al2O3 in the mixt. to 1:0.9 to 1:1.2 by addn. of ZnO and/or Al2O3, and heating the mixt. to at least 800 degrees C pref. 900-1100 degrees C for 1 hr before separating Cu from the other metals by dissolving in dilute nitric acid or an aq. soln. of an ammonium salt.

Abstract: Prodn. of ZnO-contg. desulphurisation compsns. having good breaking resistance, by plasticising inactive ZnO in the presence of water (pref. an aq. starch soln.) and carbonates, kneading the mixt., moulding, drying and calcining is improved by adding to the mixt. up to 20 wt.% of boehmite (w.r.t. ZnO), and using up to 20 mole % (NH4)2CO3 (w.r.t. ZnO). Desulphurisation of gases and vapours is effectively carried out using relatively inexpensive (because of the untilisation of inactive ZnO), durable absorbent (total absorption capacity at least 240 g S/kg.; breaking resistance is not 2 kg).
