    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a method for eliminating heavy metal ions from an aqueous solution by selectively separating the heavy metal ions in a short time for recovery without requiring addition of an assistant to the aqueous solution, and on the other hand a method for enriching the heavy metal ions from an aqueous solution by selectively separating the heavy metal ions in a short time for recovering the heavy metal ions for use for an absorbent, wherein the heavy metal ions are easily available, simply handled and produced at a low cost. CONSTITUTION: A copolymer composed of ethylene, (meth)acrylic acid and a (meth)acrylate is used for eliminating or enriching heavy metal ions from an aqueous solution. In this case, carboxyl groups of the copolymer may be neutralized by metal ions up to 100%.
