Abstract: The invention relates to antifreeze concentrates which are characterized in that they a) comprise at least one alcohol which can be mixed with water and which lowers the freezing point; b) at least one corrosion inhibitor; and c) at least one mononuclear or polynuclear aromatic component which carries at least one hydroxyl group, has a high buffering capacity in the pH range of approximately 6 to 10, and which is used as a reserve alkalinity dispenser. The invention also relates to coolant compositions containing these antifree ze concentrates for cooling circuits in internal combustion engines.

Abstract: The invention concerns the use as corrosion-inhibitors of quaternized imidazoles (I), wherein R1 and R3, independently of each other, designate saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 hydrocarbon groups which can be substituted by groups having an oxygen function or interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms; R2, R4 and R5, independently of one another, designate hydrogen or saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 hydrocarbon groups which can be substituted by groups having an oxygen function or interrupted by non-adjacent oxygen atoms, R4 and R5 being able to form a five- or six-member ring together with the corresponding imidazole carbon atoms; and XO stands for an anion. These substances are used for protecting nonferrous metals against corrosion, in particular for protecting radiators in the automotive field.
