Monoazo dyes having a 2-amino-5-nitrobenzoic ester as diazo component and Beta -naphthol as coupling component which are useful for dyeing linear polyesters and polyamides, said dyes being generally represented by the formula: WHERE R denotes the linear or branched aliphatic, araliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical of an alcohol.
