    Abstract: A process for the production of cyanuric acid in which urea and an inert solvent are passed into a reaction zone in which pyrolysis of the urea with the formation of cyanuric acid takes place at 200 DEG to 300 DEG C, from 50 to 760 mm and a space-time yield of from 0.1 to 2 kg of cyanuric acid per liter of reaction volume per hour, and the cyanuric acid is separated in a crystal separation zone and freed from solvent in a falling film evaporator.

    Abstract: In parent patent the reaction is effected in a reactor with a ratio of length to internal dia. of 500-200:1 with an initial reaction temp. of 20-100 degrees C and a final temp. of -10 degrees C to +50 degrees C a flow velocity of reaction mixture of 0.4-45 m/sec. and a mol. ratio of alkali hydroxide: cyanuric acid of 2-2.4:1 and of Cl2:cyanuric acid of 2-100:1. In the present specification, the reaction is effected at an initial temp. of 0-100 degrees C and final temp. of -10 degrees C to +25 degrees C with a mol. ratio of alkali hydroxide cyanuric acid of 2.25-2.4:1 to form trichloroisocyanuric acid.

    Abstract: 1,265,549. Cyanuric acid. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 8 July, 1969 [9 July, 1968], No. 34396/69. Heading C2C. Cyanuric acid is made by heating urea and/or biuret at 190-300‹ C. in unsubstituted or a substituted N-cyclohexyl-2-pyrrolidone, e.g. N- cyclohexyl - 4,4 - dimethyl - 2 - pyrrolidone or N - 3 1 - methylcyclohexyl - 2 - pyrrolidone. The process may be batchwise or continuous, with residence times of 20-60 mins. Atmospheric or sub-atmospheric pressure, e.g. 50-750 mm. may be used. To facilitate removal of ammonia, an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen or carbon dioxide may be passed through the reaction mixture. A coarse-grained cyanuric acid is obtainable by passing into the reaction mixture, with or without the inert gas, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen and/or phosgene. The deposited cyanuric acid may be isolated by filtering or centrifuging the cooled reaction mixture, to which a diluent, e.g. methanol may be added.
