Abstract: 1,196,937. Aqueous synthetic resin baking enamel. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. 17 Aug., 1967 [18 Aug., 1966], No. 37846/67. Heading C3R. [Also in Division B2] An aqueous baking enamel contains (a) 4.5 to 70 p.b.w. water-compatible aminoplast or phenolic resole precondensate, (b) 95 to 30 p.b.w. incompletely condensed alkyd resin having unesterified COOH and OH groups which has been rendered water-compatible with ammonia or a nitrogenous organic base, and, as a flow improver, (c) 0.5 to 5 p.b.w. of an ether of boiling point between 100‹ and 300‹ C. and formula R 1 -O-R 2 where R 1 and R 2 are hydrocarbon radicals, the total number of C atoms in the hydrocarbon radicals being 9 to 20; (a) + (b) + (c) total 100 p.b.w. Several ethers are mentioned. The enamels may be coated on sheet iron and baked at 120‹ to 190‹ C. for 10 to 100 minutes. In the examples : (a) is 25 p.b.w. of a commercial 70% solution of hexamethoxymelamine in propanol/water, and (b) 73 p.b.w. of a commercial 55% solution in glycol ether/water of a dehydrated castor oil modified phthalic anhydride/trimethylol propane alkyd brought to pH 7 to 8 with triethylamine, (c) is di-2-ethylhexyl, dinonyl, or 2-ethylhexen-(1)-yl 2-ethylhexyl ether and the enamels also contain 40 or 50 p.b.w. of water.
