    Abstract: A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF WAXY, LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYETHYLENES IN WHICH ETHYLENE IS POLYMERIZED UNDER THE ACTION OF A POLYMERIZATION INITIATOR WHICH FORMS FREE RADICALS AND IN THE PRESENCE OF A POLYMERIZATION REGULATOR AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURE AND AT SUPERATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE. IT IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE PROCESS ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION THAT AS THE FREE RADICAL-FORMING POLYMERIZATION INITIATOR THERE ARE JOINTLY USED: (1) A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF AN ORGANIC PEROXIDE HAVING A HALF-LIFE TEMPERATURE OF FROM 60* TO 112*C., AND (2) A SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF OXYGEN. HIGH YIELDS CAN BE OBTAINED BY THE PROCESS AND A PRODUCT CAN BE OBTAINED WHICH HAS PARTICULARLY GOOD OIL-BINDING PROPERTIES.

    Abstract: Production of homopolymers or copolymers of ethylene by homopolymerization of ethylene or copolymerization of mixtures of ethylene and other monomers at superatmospheric pressure and elevated temperature under the influence of a free radical generating polymerization initiator with or without a polymerization regulator. The initiator used is a mixture of (a) an initiator having a halflife of ten to 30 hours at 50* C and (b) an initiator having a halflife of 0.2 to 10 hours at 50*C, the halflife at 50*C of initiator (a) being at least twice as long as that of initiator (b). Polymers having a high molecular weight and a low degree of branching are obtained in a fairly high yield.

    Abstract: 1463846 Pressure-sensitive adhesives BASF AG 6 June 1974 [7 June 1973] 25178/74 Heading C3P [Also in Division B2] Pressure-sensitive adhesives comprise (1) 80 to 30 weight per cent of an ethylene copolymer containing 25 to 50 weight per cent of methyl acrylate units and having a melt index of 10 to 100 g./10 min., and (2) 20 to 70 weight per cent of a tackifier resin. The tackifier resin may be a rosin or rosin derivative, terpene resin, ketone resin, coumarone resin, indene resin, petroleum resin, copolymer of styrene with vinyl toluene or isobutylene, or polyisobutylene. Examples describe adhesives comprising ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymers and (1 and 2) hydrogenated rosin, (3) hydroabietylphthalate, (4) hydrocarbon resin, (5) terpene/phenol resin, (6) pentaerythritol ester of hydrogenated rosin and (7) styrene/isobutylene copolymer.
