Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a pesticidal agent for effectively controlling pests of insects, mites and nematodes and useful for plant protection, huygienics, veterinarian field and protection of a storing material by containing a specific α-arylacrylic acid derivative as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION: This pesticidal agent comprises α-arylacrylic acid derivative of the formula [X is ethylene or ethenylene; (n) is 0 or 1; (m) is 0-4; R is cyano, cyanate, nitro, OH, COOH, a haloalkyl, etc., or forms 1,3-butadiene-1,4-diyl with one of R ; R is a halogen, and alkyl, an alkoxy, etc.], e.g. 2-(β-methoxy-α- methoxycarbonyl)-3'-chloro-4'-fluorostilben as an active ingredient.
