Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve a mechanical stability by providing a light absorbing layer containing a thermoplastic binder made of a polycyclic hydrocarbon of a specific composition and one or more types of dye, and forming an optical recording medium, thereby suppressing a crystal of the layer. CONSTITUTION: A light absorbing layer containing a thermoplastic binder made of a polycyclic hydrocarbon soluble in a content of 3 wt.% or more in the case of an aliphatic hydrocarbon and an aromatic hydrocarbon and having a glass transition temperature of 150 deg.C or higher and one or more types of dye is provided on a support to form the optical recording medium. The polycyclic hydrocarbon of a unit represented in a content of 80% or more by a formula I (wherein n is an integer of 10 to 1,000, R , R to R , R10 are each independent from each other a hydrogen atom and/or 1-3C alkyl group) is preferable.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve continuous reading durability and fading stability by incorporating a carrier material, and a light absorbing layer formed of a soluble mixture of a thermoplastic binder and a dye, and using specific soluble phenol- aldehyde co-condensate as the binder. CONSTITUTION: The optical recording medium comprises a carrier material, and a light absorbing layer formed of a soluble mixture of a thermoplastic binder and at least one type of dye. As the binder, a soluble phenol-aldehyde co-condensate having an average polymerization degree larger than 40 and containing 0.05 to 5% of unreacted phenol constituent is used. Since the polymer made of a novolac exhibits good compatibility with the dye, the absorbing layer can be made to a sufficiently thick layer by a spin coating method of easy treatment, and hence good signal to noise ratio is performed. The medium in which weather resistance and continuous reading durability of the dye-polymer layer are improved can be provided by the polymer.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To directly form a record layer without providing other intermediate layer on a conventional carrier by constituting the record layer formed with void by altering a part to be illuminated of optical characteristics of the layer by laser emitting by a thermodynamically metastable alloy of a structure GeTex . CONSTITUTION: The optical recording medium is formed of a carrier material and a record layer formed on the material, and of a void by altering a part to be illuminated of optical characteristics of the record layer by a laser emitting. The record layer is constituted by a thermodynamically metastable alloy of a structure GeTex (wherein x is a thickness of a numeric value of 1.8 to 2.2) with the thickness of 10 to 100 nm. The record layer is formed of an alloy of GeTe2 or in some cases of an alloy containing other metal element. In view of a standpoint of contact resistance, a selenium of an amount not exceeding 10 At.% of small amount can be added. The medium is simply manufactured, information reproducing void is stably formed in a wide intensity range of an incident light, and further high reflectivity of 20% or more is exhibited, and hence high signal-to-noise ratio is provided.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To suppress a crystallization of a dye by using a phenol/aldehyde resin having a specific mean molecular weight soluble in an alcohol having a boiling point of a predetermined range as a thermoplastic binder of a light- absorbing layer, thereby improving a dye solubility and forming a higher density. CONSTITUTION: A phenol/aldehyde resin used for a carrier of the optical recording medium is obtained by a reaction of multifunctional phenol soluble in an alcohol having a lower boiling point than 200 deg.C with the formaldehyde. Its mean molecular weight is larger than 300. As the phenol, phenol itself or a compound represented by a formula is used solely or in the state of a mixture thereof. As the aldehyde, a formaldehyde, a formaldehyde decomposed compound, acetaldehyde, chlorinated acetaldehyde, acetal or semi-acetal is used. This resin exhibits a good compatibility with the dye. And the light-absorbing layer containing the dye and the resin is formed in a sufficient density to suppress a crystallization of the dye.
