    Abstract: Coloured hair lacquers or hair setting compositions containing a coloured macromolecular substance, are formed by chemically combining a dye with the macromolecular substance or by copolymerizing the dye with a colourless monomer. The dye may be combined with the polymer through the reactive groups by means of a condensation reaction. Suitable polymers are the copolymers of acrylamide or methacrylamide with acrylic acid esters, methacrylic acid esters, vinyl esters, vinyl lactams and if desired small amounts of unsaturated carboxylic acids. Dyes suitable for this purpose are those of the azo or anthraquinone series containing N-methylol groups as reactive groups. Dyes which can be used for copolymerization are those of the azo or anthraquinone series containing in the molecule a polymerizable olefinically unsaturated group outside the chromophoric system. Suitable monomers for copolymerizing with these dyes are acrylamide, methacrylamide, a low molecular weight acrylic esters or methacrylic ester, vinylacetate, vinyl-propionate and/or a vinyl-lactam. The dye may be combined with the polymer through the reactive groups by means of a condensation reactive. suitable dyes are those of the azo or anthraquinone series containing N-methylol groups e.g. the coupling product of diazotized N-(p-aminophenyl)-glyoxal-diureine and 1-(p-sulfophenyl)-3-methyl pyrazoline-(5) which has been reacted with formaldehyde, the coupling product of diazotized N-(p-amino phenyl)-glyoxal-diureine and N-acetyl aminonaphthol-(1-3, 6, disulfonic acid which has been reacted with formaldehyde; the coupling product of diazotized N-p-amino phenyl urea and 4-tertiary-butyl phenol which has been reacted with formaldehyde; and 4-azophenyl acetoacetic acid anilide. Suitable dyes for copolymerization are anilide. Suitable dyes for copolymerization are those of the azo or anthraquinone series containing in the molecule a polymerizable olefinically unsaturated group outside the chromophoric system e.g. the coupling products of 1-amino-3-acryloyl aminobenzene with 1-[N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N-(2-cyanoethyl)-amino]-3-methylbenzene, of 1-amino-4-acryloyl aminobenzene with 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid, or 2, 4-dichloroaniline with N-ethyl-N-b -vinyl oxyethylaniline, of p-aminostyrene with 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid and 1-amino 2-acetyl-4-acryloyl-aminoanthraquinone.     Abstract: Acid chlorides of carboxylic acids of the general formula HOOC-Ar-X-(Cl)n, where Ar is an aryl group, X is a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring which may be fused with Ar, and n is 1 or 2, may be used to prepare reactive dyes. The specified dyes have the formulae (I) (II) (III) AND (IV) ALSO:Aromatic carboxylic acids having the formula HOOC-Ar-X-(Cl)n, where Ar represents an aryl group, X is 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, which may be fused with Ar, and n is 1 or 2, are prepared by heating an aromatic trichloromethyl compound of the formula Cl3C-Ar-X-(Cl)n with concentrated formic acid at 40-120 DEG C. The heterocyclic moiety may be a thiadiazole, thiazole or pyrimidine residue, the aryl moiety a phenyl, biphenyl or naphthyl radical and the fused aryl/heterocyclic moiety a benzimidazole, benzothiazole or quinoline residue. The aryl and heterocyclic nuclei may be further substituted by, e.g., sulphonic or halogen groups. Examples describe the preparation of 3-(m-carboxyphenyl) - 5 - chlorothiadiazole - 1,2,4; 3 - (p - carboxyphenyl) - 5 - chlorothiadiazole-1,2,4; 2 - (m - carboxyphenyl) - 4,6 - dichloropyrimidine; 2 - (p - carboxyphenyl) - 4,6 - dichloropyrimidine; 4 - (p - carboxyphenyl) - 2,6- dichloropyrimidine; and 4 - (m - carboxyphenyl) - 2,6 - dichloropyrimidine. The tricloromethyl starting materials are made by photochemical chlorination of the corresponding methyl compounds.

    Abstract: The invention comprises water-insoluble dyes having the general formula wherein A represents an aromatic or heterocyclic diazo component, B represents an unsubstituted or substituted p-phenylene radical, R1 represents unsubstituted or substituted alkyl radical and R2 represents an alkyl radical which may bear halogen or pseudohalogen, the radicals A, B, R1 and R2 being free from water-solubilizing groups. Specified dyes are those of the formula wherein X represents H, CH3 or C1-C4 alkoxy, Y represents H, CH3, C1-C4 alkoxy, Cl, Br, or an acylamino group not having more than 4 carbon atoms, R1 represents C1-C4 alkyl, b -hydroxyethyl, b - methoxyethyl, dihydroxypropyl, b -acetoxyethyl or a wholly or partly acetylated dihydroxypropyl group, and R2 represents CH3, NC-CH2-, ClCH2- or Cl3C-groups. Preferred dyes are those in which A represents a radical of 5-nitro-2-aminothiazole The dyes may be obtained by introduction of the radical -COR2 before or after coupling. They are preferably obtained by coupling the diazo compound of an amine having the formula A-NH2 with a coupling component having the formula The dyes may be used for dyeing textile materials made from acetyl cellulose (secondary acetate and triacetate), linear polyesters and polyamides.
