Abstract: Uniformly dyed water-swellable cellulosic fibers obtained by dyeing cellulosic fibers in the swollen state with a dye of the formula in which D is the radical of a diazo component; R1 and R2 are optionally substituted alkyl and one of them may also be cyclohexyl, phenyl, methoxyphenyl or ethoxyphenyl and X is hydrogen, chloro, methyl or acylamino, the molecule containing in the radicals R1, R2 and X at least one group: -CO-R3-Y-Ar where R3 is C1 to C3 alkylene; Y is oxygen, sulfur or R4 is hydrogen or C1 to C4 alkyl; and Ar is phenyl or phenyl bearing chloro, bromo, methyl, methoxy, ethoxy, C1 to C4 alkoxycarbonyl or cyano as a substituent.

Abstract: Monoazo dyes of formula: (in which R1 is H, alkyl, opt. substd. phenyl of alkoxycarbonyl; R2 is H, alkyl, Cl, Br, NO2, CN, acyloxy or acylamino; R3 is H, alkyl, opt. substd. phenyl of OH; R4 is alkanoyl, aroyl, alkoxycarbonyl, CN, NO2, nitrophenyl or a hetero-aromatic gp.; R5 is H, Cl, CH3, acetylamino, or propionylamino; R6 is H, CH3, methoxy or ethoxy; R7 is 1-4C alkyl, 2-3C hydroxyalkyl, 3-7C alkoxyalkyl, 4-7C alkanoylalkyl, cyanethyl, 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl ethyl, chlorethyl, acetoacetoxy ethyl, gamma-acetyl aminopropyl, benzyl, phenylethyl, phenyl, methoxy- or ethoxy-phenyl, or cyclohexyl; R8 is H, 1-4C alkyl, 2-3C hydroxyalkyl or 4-7C alkanoyl oxy-alkyl), are useful as dispersion dyes for colouring synthetic fibres, e.g. cellulose esters, polyamides or esp. polyesters, in yellow-orange to blue shades, with good fastness.
