Abstract: Aqueous solutions of organic acids or bases are obtained by a process in which (a) an aqueous solution of a salt of an organic acid or of an organic base and (b) respectively, an aqueous solution of an inorganic base or of an inorganic acid are each passed into compartments of an exchange cell which are separated from one another by an ion exchange membrane, and the solution (a) and (b) are transported past the surface of the membrane.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To efficiently remove a sulfuric acid salt and polybasic low mol.wt. acid together with the salt of the polyvalent low mol.wt. acid in an anion org. compd.-contg. aq. soln. by subjecting this aq. soln. to an acidification treatment before or during an electrodialysis treatment. CONSTITUTION: Anion exchange membranes and cation exchange membranes are alternately arrayed parallel to each other between two electrodes and the compartments formed by inserted spacer frames are segmented from each other. The electrolyte-contg. soln. which contains the anion org. compd. and is subjected to acidification is passed in the compartment limited in an anode direction via the anion exchange membranes. The electrolyte-contg. aq. soln. of, for example, 1 to 10 mS/cm in initial electrical conductivity is passed via the cation exchange membranes through the inside of the compartments limited in the anode direction, to make it possible to receive the salt. The more specific examples of the desalted suitable anion org. compds. include fluorescent bleaching agents, dyes, mono- or polycarboxylic acid or the like.
