Abstract: Novel prepn. of bis (di-t.Bu-phosphino) methane of formula tBu2P.CH2.PEBu2 (I) is by reacting an alkali metal di-t.Bu-phosphinomethanide of formulae t.Bu2.P.CH2.M (II) with a halo-di-t.Bu-phosphine of formula t.Bu2.P.Hal (III) in presence of M = Li, Na, K, Rb or Cs; and Hal = Cl, Br or I. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) acts as a ligand for transition metals such as Rh, Ru, Pd, Pt, Co or Ni to form complexes serving as homogenous catalysts for hydrogenation, hydroformylation or carbonylation as well as (10) oligomerisation of unsatd. cpds. Unlike the Al+CH2Cl2 process of Z,Naturforsch 38b,1027(1983), this process offers industrial scale prodn. of (I) at high yield.os
