Abstract: Phthalocyanine compsns. which are stable with respect to recrystallisation and modification, giving colourations of high brilliances, comprises (a) a phthalocyanine pigment and (b) 2-40 wt. % on (a) a salt or a homogeneous mixt. contg. (i) one or more phthalocyanine derivs. of formula Pc -X-NR1R2 n in which Pc is a metal free n-valent phthalocyanine residue, a cuprophthalocyanine or a mixt. of these, X = -CH2-, -SO2-N-(R)-alk-, -CH2-CH2-COOC2H4- or -CH2-CH2-COO-C3H6-, R1 = H, 1120C alkyl, phenyl gp. opt. substd. by methyl (m)ethoxy or Cl, -(C2H4-NH)zH or -(C3H6-NH)zH, or -(C3H6-NH)zH, R2 = H, 1-6C alkyl or 6-8C cycloalkyl gp. alk = linear or branched satd. alkylene gp. with 2-6C, R = H or 1-4C alkyl, R and R2 may be bound together, n = 2-5, z = 1-3 and the gp. NR1R2 represents a satd. heterocyclic gp. with 5, 6 or 7 members opt. contg. O, N or S as other members of the ring, and (ii) a 1-20C aliphatic sulphonic acid, an aromatic sulphonic acid carrying one or two 1-20C alkyl gps. and opt. a OH gp. as substituents, or mixts. of these the ratio of (i):(ii) being 1:1 to 1:5 moles, as stabiliser, and opt. (c) one or more org. liqs. or solns. of resins in org. liqs. Prods. are useful pigmenting agents for printing inks, paints, plastics such as PVC, polyethylene etc. and remain stable in use so that they do not crystallise out on storage or change tint due to modification of the crystal form.
