Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a novel catalyst used for preparation of amines from nitriles and nitrogen compounds by forming the catalyst from a specific amount of copper oxide and zirconium oxide and a specific amount of metal oxide of the subgroups Ib to VIIb and the group VIII of the Periodic Table. CONSTITUTION: The catalyst used for preparation of amines from nitrilse and nitrogen oxide consists of from 85 to 100 wt.% of copper oxide and zirconium oxide and from 15 to 0 wt.% of metal oxides of the subgroups Ib to VIIb and the group VIII of the Periodic Table. The catalyst is preferably used in a solid form generally. At the time of using the catalyst, the catalytically active material is ground and loaded in a reactor or the catalytically active material is milled and mixed with a forming agent and a catalyst component is formed by heat forming, and loaded in the reactor. Then the catalytically active material of the catalyst is defined as a total of catalytically active component calculated as the oxide before the final heat treatment and before reduction by hydrogen.
