Abstract: Prepn. of hexasubstd. guanidiniumhalides of formula R1R2N-C circled positive -(NR1R2)-NR3R4 X circled negative (I) comprises reacting a tetrasubstd. haloformamidinium halide of formula R1R2N- circled positive CX-NR1R2 X circled negative (IIe with an amine of formula HNR3R4 (III). In the formulae, R1-4 are aliphatic, alicyclic, araliphatic or aromatic gps. or R1+R2 can form a heterocyclic ring, and X is halo. Cpds. (I) are useful as intermediates for dyes catalysts plant-protection agents and pharmaceuticals. The process is simple and gives high yields (e.g. 80%) of high purity prods.
