Abstract: Gassing nozzle for directly gassing polymer melts by the internal gas pressure method, having a melt feed line (14), a gas supply line (6), movably arranged vertically within the melt feed line, and a non-return valve between the melt feed line (14) and the gas supply line (6), characterised in that the non-return valve is designed as a plunger (9) which is arranged movably within the gas supply line (6) and has an internal bore (10) with lateral gas outlet bores (11), which a) at a melt pressure greater than the gas pressure, prevent the gas supply into the melt and b) at a gas pressure greater than the melt pressure, permit gassing of the melt.

Abstract: Hollow articles are made from stabilizer-free high-density polyethylene, e.g. by blow moulding a fuel container in the absence of oxygen. The absence of stabilizers, e.g. UV or heat stabilizers, is said to improve the barrier effect, or resistance to fuel permeability, long term, to which end the container may also be conventionally treated with a reactive gas, e.g. containing fluorine.
