Abstract: 890,986. Pulverulent fuel furnaces. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. Sept. 21, 1960 [Sept. 25, 1959], No. 32380/60. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XIII] A fluidized bed reactor, particularly for the combustion of hard wet coal, is heated up by a flame 10 from an ignition chamber 6, 6 1 burning within the fluidized bed 5 of inert material, and granular material to be reacted is introduced into the fluidized bed immediately the flame is ignited. A long flame with approximately stoichiometric proportions of fuel and air is enclosed for part of its length in the ignition chamber, which may be inclined downwardly to prevent entry of the inert material. The ignition chamber opens below the surface of the fluidized bed. If a difficult substance is to be burnt, readily inflammable fuel such as brown coal is introduced to the bed immediately the flame is ignited, and the difficult substance is not introduced until the bed is heated to the ignition temperature of this fuel. The bed material may be sand, gravel, roasted ores or ash withdrawn from the fluidized bed during its previous operation.
