    Abstract: 1530404 Magnetic storage arrangements BASF AG 3 March 1976 [4 March 1975] 08450/76 Heading H3B In a magnetic domain propagating arrangement in which domain paths are provided in a thin layer of high coercivity material by channels K1-K8, Fig. 1a, of a lower coercivity material, the channels are arranged in groups with each group terminated by a respective read out area A1-A8 of lower coercivity material. The thin layer is formed on a substrate and is stacked in register with three further plates, Figs. 2a, 3a, 4a, on which operational control and read out conductors are provided, interconnections between the plates being made by plating through aligned holes. In use the eight bits of a data word are distributed in like positions over the eight channel groups, and successive words are similarly distributed but each time using a different channel in each group. Domains representing a data word are formed in the channels by pulsing a conductor 66, 67, Fig. 4a, and by pulsing a conductor in a corresponding position in each of eight groups of conductors B1-B8, Fig. 2a. At the same time conductors C1-C8, Fig. 3a, are selectively pulsed to determine whether domains representing a logic "1" are to be produced in the respective channels, the absence of a domain being used to denote a logic "0". The domains in the channels are advanced by alternately energizing positionally interlaced conductors B9 and C9, Figs. 2a and 3a, respectively. At the ends of the channels, conductor loops B11-B18 extending over the read areas A1-A8, Fig. 2a, are used for inductive read out and may be coupled to the conductors C1-C8 for data recirculation. Entry to the read out areas involves further areas H1-H8, Fig. 1a, of the lower coercivity material, and is controlled by selectively energizing conductors 30-49 and C11-C18, the latter conductors being used to select the channels from which data is to be read. Erasure of the domains in the areas H1-R8 and A1-A8 following read out is effected by negative currents in all the conductors 30-49.
