Meat or fish is packaged in a multi part container which is made wholly or partly by expanding and fusing together particulate expandable styrene polymer and whose individual components 1, 2 fit together so closely that the flow of air through the joins is prevented. Projections 6, 8 on a lid 2, which may be of polyethylene, engage in recesses 7, 9 in a receptacle portion 1, the bottom of which may have drain holes in the corners. Grooves 3 in the receptacle 1 and lid 2 are provided to retain the fluids. The containers may be stacked so that the bottom of one container tightly closes the container beneath it, the bottoms being provided with projections or grooves to facilitate stacking.
