Abstract: Process for preparing amine salts of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulphonic acid comprises sulphonating nitrotoluene with oleum, diluting the reaction mixture with water, partially neutralising the acid aqueous solution of the sulphonation product with inorganic bases and extracting the mixture with lipophilic amines.
