Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a monolithically supported catalyst having excellent mechanical performance such as adhesive strength and wear resistance, and good workability and reproducibility upon manufacture. CONSTITUTION: This monolithically supported catalyst comprises a supporting material in the form of a woven metal fiber or a metal thin film, which is continuously heated in an atmosphere, cooled, coated with active components and co-catalysts under a reduced pressure. The coated supporting material is cut off, formed and finally converted into a monolithic structure catalyst element.

Preforms are produced from ceramic and/or metallic fibers by injection molding or extruding a mixture containing the fibers and a thermoplastic binder, said thermoplastic binder being polyoxymethylene, which after the shaping is removed by treatment in a gaseous acid-containing atmosphere or in a gaseous BF3-containing atmosphere.
