Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a palladium-contg. catalyst capable of hydrogenating even a small amt. of acetylene in hydrocarbon flow at a high selection rate without addition of carbon monoxide. SOLUTION: A silicon dioxide carrier is impregnated with a soln. contg. at least one kind of co-catalyst metals. The impregnated catalyst obtd. in such a manner is dried and is impregnated with a palladium-contg soln. and is dried and calcined, by which the catalyst with the carrier is produced. The catalyst with the carrier described above has 0.001 to 1wt.% palladium and 0.005 to 5wt.% at least one kind of the co-catalyst metals consisting of group 1 and group 2 of an element period system. The catalyst with the carrier which is mainly composed of the silicon dioxide and is suitable for the selective hydrogenation of acetylene in the hydrocarbon flow is thus obtd.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst highly active and highly selective even at low working temperature by depositing a prescribed thickness and amount of palladium as a sol on a carrier by impregnation or successive spraying and heating processes. SOLUTION: A palladium sol is previously produced and then the palladium sol is sprayed to a heated carrier of an inorganic oxide such as alumina and the likes or the carrier is immersed in the palladium sol. Consequently, a palladium-carrier catalyst is obtained and the catalyst contains palladium in 0.001-2 wt.% content existing in a layer having a thickness of less than 5000 nm forming a shell around the carrier, substantially in the absence of a promoter metal. The catalyst is highly active and highly selective even at low temperature and without requiring an adjusting agent such CO, the catalyst enables hydrogenation of acetylene in C2 -flow and promotes selective hydrogenation of acetylene and diene in gas phase.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain relatively high mechanical strength by specifying the average pore size of pores of a specified pore volume ratio in a single mode or multiple mode catalyst carrier or catalyst having a specified BET specific surface area and an average pore size. SOLUTION: In a new improved single mode or multiple mode catalyst carrier or catalyst having single mode or multiple mode pore size distribution having a BET specific surface area of 0.01-250m/g and an average pore size of 300,000nm measured according to a mercury pressurization porosity measuring method, 10-95% of the pore volume is made 0.2-100 times the average pore diameter, Or 10-80% of the pore volume is made 0.8-100 times the average pore size, and/or 50-95% of the pore volume is made 0.8-1 time of the average pore size. Besides, the half value width of the pore side size distribution is made less than 0.6 time of the average pore size.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst carrier or catalyst of a single mode or a multi- mode. SOLUTION: This catalyst has single mode or multi-mode void dimension distribution wherein a BET specific surface area is 0.01-250m /g and an average void diameter measured on the basis of a mercury pressure porosity measuring method is 50-300,000nm. At this time, 10-95% of void vol. is 0.1-3 times the average void diameter and/or 10-80% of the void vol. is 0.4-3 times the average void diameter and/or 50-95% of the void vol. is 0.1-1 times the average void diameter and/or 50-80% of the void vol. is 0.4-1 times the average void diameter. Further, the width of the half height of void dimension distribution is less than 0.5 times the average void diameter.
