Abstract: Production of allantoin of high purity in aq. medium. 1 mol. glyoxylic acid and 2 - 5 mol. urea in aq. solution or dispersion are reacted in presence of mineral acid or organic sulphonic acid at 40 - 95 degrees C and allantoin is separated; higher yields are obtained in absence of alcohol and ester of glyoxylic acid.
