    Abstract: 1282298 Melamine BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 1 Dec 1969 [2 Dec 1968] 58506/69 Heading C2C Melamine is produced by reacting urea and/or its thermal decomposition products, in the presence of ammonia, using a fluidized-bed catalyst at elevated temperature, the catalyst being an aluminium oxide which has been obtained by treating at 150‹ to 450‹ C. with urea or decomposition products formed therefrom in that temperature range, an aluminium hydroxide which has not previously been calcined and which can be converted by dehydration into a heat-stable oxide. The catalyst may be produced in situ from the appropriate aluminium hydroxide.

    Abstract: 1,187,808. Cooling-off gas obtained in the synthesis of melamine. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 8 Aug., 1967 [9 Aug., 1966], No. 36329/67. Heading C2C. The off-gas, obtained by the thermal decomposition of urea to form melamine and separation of the melamine from the off-gas by cooling the latter to 180-280‹ C., is further cooled by treatment with a melt containing urea and an ammonium salt and/or a guanidine salt which is soluble in molten urea and keeping the temperature of the melt up to 40‹ C. above the decomposition temperature of ammonium carbamate. The off-gas is preferably cooled to a temperature below 120‹ C. and, before treatment with the above melt containing the ammonia and/or guanidine salt, the off-gas may be washed in conventional manner with a melt of urea. Suitable salts which may be employed are the ammonium and guanidine salts of nitric acid, thiocyanic acid, formic acid and acetic acid and the melt advantageously contains urea in an amount of 10-90% by wt.

    Abstract: Fertiliser is produced by decomposing crude phosphates with HNO3, then adding KCl to resultant acid soln., solidifying mixture at 80-250 degrees with simultaneous expulsion of chloride, opt. granulating and drying. Pef. P2O5/CaO ratio in soln. is adjusted to 0.6-1.0 before adding KCl, air and/or steam is passed through mixture and solidified mixture is moistened with water before drying. Over 95% chloride is removed from soln. in this way, making fertiliser suitable for chloride-sensitive plants, without need to use separate process to produce chloride-free K salt.
