    Abstract: Thermoplastic segmented elastomeric copolyether-esters which substantially consist of a plurality of recurring short-chain and long-chain ester units linked to one another by ester bonds, the proportion of the short-chain ester units of the formula I where R is the divalent radical remaining after removal of the carboxyl groups of aromatic dicarboxylic acids having a molecular weight of II where R is defined as above and B is the divalent radical remaining after removal of the terminal hydroxyl groups from a long-chain glycol, being from 25 to 85% by weight of the copolyester, and which contain from 0.01 to 5 mole %, based on copolyester, of trifunctional or more highly functional compounds, serving as branching agents, chemically incorporated into the polymer molecule. The copolyesters are particularly suitable for use in pressure-sensitive adhesives.

    Abstract: Stabilisers for high mol. linear polyesters derived from dicarboxylic acids or their ester derivs. and a low, mol. diol, have formula: where X is O or S; R1 and R2 (same or different) = 1-12C alkyl or alkenyl gps. cycloalk(en)yl gps. with 5-8C ring, 7-10V aralkyl gp. or 6-10C aryl gp., or R1 and R2 together may form an alkylidene gp. with up to 12C or a 5-8C cycloalkylidene gp.; and R3 = H or alkyl gp. with up to 4C. The (I) are added e.g. at 0.05-2 wt. % to polyesters such as polybutylene terephthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, etc. to give good stabilisation against thermooxidative degradation, UV degradation, discolouration, etc. The prods. may be used as fibres, moulding materials, extruded cable insulation, etc. Typical stabiliser (I) is 5,5'-diethylbarbituric acid.

    Abstract: Melt-spun fibres are produced from a mixt. of (A) 50-95 wt.% PVC contg. >=50 mol.% vinyl chloride units and (B) 50-5% linear, satd. and at least partly crystalline polyester of formula -G(SG)nG-, (in which S is a gp. of an alkane and/or benzene or naphthalene dicarboxylic acid; G is a gp. of an aliphatic and/or aromatic diol; n is >30). S pref. consists of >=50 mol.% terephthalic acid gps., and G pref. consists of =50 mol.% 1,4-butane diol or 1,6-hexane diol gps.; n is 30-160 (80-140). Used in mfr. of woven, knitted or non-woven fabrics. Textile properties, esp. breaking elongation and dimensional stability or heating, e.g. shrinkage or boiling, are improved, while retaining a high PVC content.
