Abstract: Prodn. of moulded prods. (I), esp. laminated springs, from fibre reinforced, liq., heat curable synthetic resin (II), by impregnating the fibre (in the form of strand, bundles, or woven or non-woven mat) with (II), converting into a laminate sheet, opt. cutting into strips, and curing a combination of several strips by heating in a press. The novelty is that the layers of laminate strips are hardened by applying the pressure to the largest opposite surfaces of the moulding so that the curing process starts from one of these surfaces and proceeds towards the other. More specifically, one surface of the moulding is heated to 5-50 deg.C above the starting temp. (T) of the resin curing reaction and the opposite surface surface is heated to 50-30 deg.C below T. The resin in the strips differs in reactivity, basically showing a continuous change in reactivity over the cross section of the moulding. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process enables the prodn. of laminated springs, etc. with a large cross-section, without shrinkage, delamination or cracking (contrast prior-art processes in which both surfaces harden before the middle of the moulding)
