Abstract: Method for preparing aqueous polymer dispersions (A) by polymerizing at least one olefin, optionally also carbon monoxide, in aqueous medium, in presence of a metal complex (I) and one or more dispersants. M = transition metal of groups VIIIB, IB or IIB; E1 and E2 = group VA atoms; Y = 1-6C alkylene (optionally substituted by hydroxy, 1-6C alkoxy, carboxy, sulfo, amino, ammonium, phosphono, phosphonato, sulfamoyl, amidino, carbamoyl, hydroxysulfonyloxy, sulfino or 1-4C alkyl, or interrupted by oxygen, imino, silylene, or mono- or di-alkylsilylene), a fused cycloaliphatic ring or benzene ring, or 1,8-naphthylene; R1 = 1-20C alkyl (optionally substituted by hydroxy, 1-6C alkoxy, carboxy, sulfo or aryl), 6-14C aryl (optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl, hydroxy, 1-6C alkoxy, carboxy, cyano or R2) or 3-12C cycloalkyl; R2 = fluoro, sulfo, nitro or 1-10C perfluoroalkyl; R3-R6 = hydrogen or R2; L1 and L2 = (R7)xPH3-x, (R7)xNH3-x, R7OR7, R7OH, water, pyridine substituted by x R7, CO, 1-14C alkyl nitrile, 6-12C aryl nitrile, olefin, (R7)hNH2-h, or anions of 1-6 C alkyl, 3-14C cycloalkyl, (meth)allyl, benzyl, aryl, carboxylic or sulfonic acids, or (di)ketones, optionally linked by one or more covalent bonds; x = 0-3; h = 0-2; R1 = hydrogen, 1-20C alkyl (optionally substituted by 1-6C alkoxy, mono- or di-(1-6C alkyl) amino or 6-14C aryl), 3-12C cycloalkyl or 6-14C aryl; An- = an equivalent of an anion of a non-coordinating acid with pKa less than 4.75; and n = 0-4 Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) aqueous dispersions produced by the new method, having head-to-tail content below 90% and mean particle size 1 mum; and (2) method for preparing polyketones (II) by isolation from (A).
