The core consists of sub-gp. IV-VI metals. The oxide coating consists of (mixed) oxides of W, Mo, V, Ta or Ti and pref. is produced by anodic oxidn. of the core in aq. semi-conc. H2SO4 at room temp. to a thickness of over 100 Angstroms.
