Abstract: Fatty acid esters of ascorbic acid are prepared by a process in which a homogeneous mixture of (a) ascorbic acid, (c) concentrated sulfuric acid having a concentration of not less than 96% and (c) a methyl or ethyl ester of a fatty acid of 12 to 18 carbon atoms is reacted at from 20 DEG to 50 DEG C. Using the novel process, the fatty acid esters of ascorbic acid, in particular ascorbyl palmitate, which are very desirable antioxidants are obtained by a procedure which is technically simpler and hence cheaper than the conventional processes, but in equally good yields.

Abstract: PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF UNSATURATED ALCOHOLS AND/OR ESTERS THEREOF Process for the preparation of unsaturated alcohols and/or esters thereof by reacting conjugated dienes with water and/or aqueous carboxylic acid solutions in the presence of a macroporous acid ion exchanger and suitable solvents. The diene has the general formula I (I) in which R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen or a methyl group and R2 also can represent an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 2 to 6 carbon atoms which may contain a double bond which is not in a conjugated position relative to the double bonds of the diene, and preferably R1 and R3 each represent groups CH3 or CH2-CH3. Said diene is reacted in a homogeneous or quasi-homogeneous phase in the presence of said macroporous acid ion exchanger.
