    Abstract: Linear polyamide fibres, films and other shaped articles are dyed or printed with a dyestuff containing the anion of the formula: in which R represents an alkyl radical (branched or unbranched) containing 7-12 carbon atoms. The dyestuff cation may be a hydrogen, sodium, potassium or ammonium ion or that of an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic amine or that of a quaternary ammonium compound derived from such an amine. The dyestuff is applied from aqueous solutions or dispersions containing, if desired, anionic and non-ionic dispersing agents and thickeners. Dyeing may be effected at temperatures of 60 DEG -120 DEG C., from a bath of pH 3-10, advantageously an initially alkaline bath rendered acid during the final phase of dyeing, or alternatively the dye liquor may be padded on the fibres which are subsequently steamed. The printing pastes may contain the usual auxiliaries, several of which are specified. Examples of dyeing and printing are given. The dyestuffs are prepared by reacting primary alkylamines containing 7-12 carbon atoms with 1-amino-4-haloanthraquinone- 2-sulphonic acids, or with 1-amino- 2:4-dihaloanthraquinones in which latter case the halogen in the 2-position of the product is converted into a sulphonic acid group by reaction with sulphurous acid or a sulphite.

    Abstract: A catalyst which is insensitive to air and which is used for polymerizing olefines is obtained by heating a mixture of a titanium tetrahalide, a metal of Groups I to III and an aryl halide. Materials specified are zinc and aluminium (which may be etched with caustic soda before use), and chlorbenzene, bromobenzene, dichlorbenzenes and polyhalogenated aromatic compounds. Halides of Al, Hg and Zn may also be included, and ethylene bromide and hydrocarbons may be used as media in the polymerization.ALSO:Olefines are polymerized using as catalyst a preformed complex obtained by heating a mixture of a titanium tetrahalide, a metal of Groups 1 to 3 and an aryl halide. Monomers specified are ethylene, propylene, butylene, isobutylene and pentene, and the catalyst components disclosed are any halide, zinc and aluminium (which may be etched with caustic soda before use), and chlorbenzene, bromobenzene, dichlorbenzenes and polyhalogenated aromatic compounds. Excess aryl halide may act as solvent in conjunction with hydrocarbons, e.g. iso-octane. Optional materials used in the process are ethylene bromide, and halides of Al, Hg and Zn. The catalysts obtained as above are said to be not sensitive to air. In examples ethylene is polymerized while continuously maintaining a pressure thereof, and foils of polymer are obtained. The polymers may be purified and catalyst decomposed by treatment with materials such as water, dilute hydrochloric acid, boiling hydrocarbons (which remove waxy materials), methanol and wetting agents.
