Abstract: A pumpable and non-sedimenting high-conc. paste is made by mixing powdered sodium dithionite (hyposulphite) with organic liq. which is inert relative to that material in an intensive mixer whose mixing and dispersal operation is divided into separate stages. Suitable appts. has a rapidly rotating single-shaft extruder with three separate linear feed worm section sepd. by mixing and dispersal elements whose gap from the surrounding cylindrical stator is less than for the worm sections. Pre-mixing takes place with organic liq. from an initial feeder while further liq. or liq. mixts. are injected before the mixing elements. The entire extruder has a tempering jacket, and discharges into a cooler taking the paste to about 30 deg.C before storage.

Abstract: Highly concentrated pumpable hydrosulphite pastes which are free of sediments are prepared from solid and liquid feed materials by continuously mixing and dispersing pulverulent sodium dithionite (2) and an organic liquid (8) inert towards sodium dithionite in an intensive mixer (5) comprising mixing and dispersing elements arranged in steps.
