Abstract: 2-Anthraquinone-azo dyes free from carboxylic and sulphinic acid groups and having the formula in which A is an unsubstituted or substituted or quaternized amino group and Z is a radical of a coupling component of the benzene, naphthalene, pyrazolone or acetoacetic arylide series are prepared (a) by reacting a compound of formula in which Hal is halogen and Z is as above with ammonia or a primary, secondary or tertiary amine or an acid amide, the quaternary and acylated compounds when produced may be reacted with an acid or a base to give the corresponding amino compound, (b) the 1-nitro-anthraquinone-azo compound of formula may be reduced to the amino compound using mild reducing agents, (c) the compounds of formula in which A11 is an amino group which may be substituted or quaternized is diazotized and coupled with a compound HZ or is reacted with a nitroso compound ON-Z (Z is as above) and if desired quaternary and acylated compounds may be reacted with an acid or a base. Yellow-black shades may be obtained on polyamides, polyesters, polyurethanes and acetate materials using these new dyes.
