Abstract: The biological reactor is operated with microorganisms and/or enzymes for the oxidation of organic compounds which are employed in the presence of biocatalysts in the reactor chamber (4) (anode chamber), and the enzymes are regenerated on a polarised electrode (1), the polarisation of the electrode (1) taking place via a catalyst electrode (2) located in an electrolyte chamber (5) and separated from the reactor chamber (4) by a polyelectrolyte (3), where the electrode (1) is produced from an electrically conducting carbon material which is surface-oxidised at potentials epsilon h of +1.3 V to +10 V in aqueous oxygen-containing mineral acids.
